In
the cultures east of the Bosphorus, where the highest forms of human
expression have traditionally been devoted to the pleasing embellishment
of surfaces, and in which the primary living space has been defined
by the floor, an unrivalled supremacy has been consistently attained
in those branches of the decorative arts most suited to the enrichment
of the ground plane.
In this exhibition programme, we have focussed particularly
upon selecting brilliant and compelling approaches adopted
by the most gifted of Eastern artists in the enrichment of the canvas
of the floor, which will produce an imaginative and fulfilling
harmony in the primary living spaces of the home.

Enchantments Underfoot
The combination of splendour and refinement with which
the masters of enrichment both renowned and anonymous set out to
turn the floor space into a magical source of energy and inspiration
is memorably explored in the Exhibition collections. (Check our
Exhibition Calendar for where and when to see them). We present
here one ot two examples of their achievements.
